Reflect and give thanks to our service members
Contributed by: Julie Beck on 12/1/2008

The holidays are always a time of reflection. A time to think about the year gone by. A time to think about all that has been accomplished and all that is yet to be. It is also a time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices that our brave American Heroes in uniform have given so that this country can continue to shine in the greatness that is The United States of America.

During this time of year, it is not uncommon to experience the hustle and bustle of the shopping season. As people run around looking for gifts to give, why not stop and think about the gift of freedom that is given to all of us on a daily basis by our American Heroes of the Armed Forces.

Each and every day that we get to wake up and enjoy American freedoms is a gift not to be taken for granted. Let us all take some time throughout this holiday season to stop and remember our brave men and women who have so selflessly given us the greatest gift we could ever have: the gift of freedom.

Remember that our troops are still in harms way; serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and across the globe. It is especially difficult during the holiday season while they are away from their own families and friends. Keep them in your hearts and prayers. As you give thanks for all the blessings in your own life, also give thanks to our service members who keep the flame of freedom alive.

Julie, Thank you for the post. My husband recently got called up through the Navy Reserves and we count our blessings everyday. May they will all return home safely.
