Mark Pifher, Aurora Water's deputy director for water resources, has been named the new director for Aurora Water. Pifher, who has been with the department since 2005, will assume his new responsibilities immediately. The selection was made after an extensive nationwide search.
"Mark has an extensive knowledge of and experience in Colorado water rights and resource management," said Aurora City Manager
Ron Miller. "Aurora is fortunate to have a professional of his caliber and experience to lead the department."
Pifher has more than 25 years of water rights and water quality experience and has chaired numerous state and regional water committees. Pifher is often called to testify at the state and federal level on water related legislation. Prior to joining the organization, he served as Director of the Colorado Water Quality Control Division. His earlier experience included serving as legal counsel representing municipalities and special districts in judicial proceedings.
Pifher will oversee 415 employees, an operating budget of $109 million, and the city's complex water supply, treatment and distribution system including two nationally recognized water treatment facilities, and a water reclamation facility. The department is also responsible for storm water and wastewater operations. "I am very pleased and proud to be appointed the director of an outstanding organization with one of the country's premiere water projects under construction," Pifher said. "It is an exciting time in the utility industry, with many challenges, and I look forward to meeting them.
Pifher received his bachelor and law degree from the University of Wisconsin.
