Partners help familes buy homes at Stapleton
Contributed by: Jeff Martinez on 9/5/2008

A dynamic duo is making the dream of owning a home at Stapleton a reality for hundreds of the region's residents.

American Sunrise Communities (ASC), a nationwide non-profit organization working with Forest City Stapleton, Inc., is teaming with Denver-based Brothers Redevelopment to highlight the many affordable housing options available at the Stapleton Redevelopment and to educate potential home buyers about the home buying process.

ASC initiates the process with future homeowners by hosting quarterly HomeStart Conferences designed to inform potential buyers about affordability and deed requirements, credit and financing options, money management and more.

More than a simple seminar, HomeStart attendees also get to tour Stapleton and the affordable homes that are available for low- to moderate-income buyers, including Stapleton's 29th Drive Row Homes. Priced from $114,400 to $169,400 (prices and specifications subject to change), the income-qualified homes feature one-, two- and three-bedroom designs with attached garages, and are made available to individuals whose household gross incomes (before taxes) do not exceed $40, 200 for a single-person to a maximum of $66,650 for a household of six.

After successfully completing the HomeStart conference, qualified individuals are then referred to Brothers Redevelopment's Home Buyer Workshops. Led by knowledgeable housing counselors, the workshops lend valuable insight into the home-buying process from start to finish. Specifically, housing counselors teach participants about the 'hidden' costs associated with homeownership, discuss the basics of mortgage loans and provide tips for tacking basic home maintenance.

Qualified homebuyers who attend and successfully complete both events and purchase an affordable home at Stapleton are eligible to receive $3,500 that can be applied toward closing costs.

The partnership provides a great opportunity for working families to get into a home at Stapleton. With a comprehensive selection of shops, restaurants, schools and miles of parks and open space, Stapleton is a great place to live and work

Prospective buyers are urged to take the first step toward owning a home at Stapleton by registering for the next HomeStart Conference, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 in the Denver Improv Theatre, located at 8246 E. 49 th Avenue, across from Borders Books in Stapleton's Northfield Retail Center.

In order to attend the free conference, interested buyers must register either by calling 1-888-AM-SUN-CO (888-267-8626) or register on-line at www.stapletondenver.com or www.americansunrise.org. Space is limited and participants must arrive between 9:30 and 9:50 a.m. on the day of the conference to be admitted.
