The City of Aurora and the City and County of Denverpartnered onSaturday, October 17, on a volunteer tree planting project at Aurora's Sand Creek Park. More than 100 volunteers spent the morning planting 125 trees at the 85-acre park.
This cooperative partnershipwas sponsored by the Mile High Million Tree Initiative, which proposes adding one million new trees to the metro area by 2025. Other project partners include Suncor Energy and "NeighborWoods," a community service campaign sponsored by the Alliance for Community Trees.
Denver's Mayor John Hickenlooper and Aurora's Mayor Ed Tauer addressed the volunteers and received a check from Comcast in support of The Million Tree Initiative.
Sand Creek Park, 2700 N. Peoria St., is located just north of the Anschutz Medical Campus and adjacent to the Sand Creek Regional Trail, which connects Aurora, Denver and Commerce City while passing by premier parks and natural areas situated along the creek.
