The price of gasoline has hit over
$4.00 per gallon
and it is biting the wallets of anyone that commutes by car to work. One way to beat these high prices is to ride a bicycle and leave the gas guzzler home for a couple of days each week. There is no better time to of year to start bicycle commuting then during the month of June, Colorado's Bike Month. Bicycle commuting saves money, can help with your general fitness and is just plain fun! Here are a few tips to help you get started with bicycling to work.
- Take your bike in for a safety check.
Treads Bicycle Outfitters at 16701 E Iliff Ave
offers a free safety check for bicycle commuters.
- Choose a safe bike route from your home to your destination. Use a good street map to find a route using neighborhood streets and trails away from the busy arterial streets that you might normally take in your car. Maps are available at Treads.
- Practice your bike route when you are not in a hurry. There is nothing worse then arriving late for work because you got lost along the way.
- Review the other important bicycle safety tips provided on the Bike to Work Day web site at www.drcog.org/btwd2007 . Contact Bicycle Aurora at 303-699-9260 for additional information on Bike to Work Day in Aurora.
Colorado Bike to Work Day 2008 will be on Wednesday, June 25th. Join the fun and ride a bike!

Thanks to Tom Tobiassen and Council Member Pierce for reminding us about Bike To Work Day and informing us how to safely participate.

You're correct in saying high gas prices are biting us in the wallet! It's good to see a City Council member out & about on his bicycle. A very good example, Mr. Pierce!
