PUEBLO, Colo. - February 24, 2006 - The 2005-06 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference West Division champions trailed by 11 points at halftime, but the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team came from behind to defeat Colorado State University - Pueblo Friday night, 70-67 in overtime. The Skyhawks improve to 18-8 overall and 14-5 in league games.
Junior forward Guy Meyer (Santa Fe, N.M.) hit one of his two three-point field goals with four minutes remaining in regulation to give the Skyhawks their first lead of the game. Meyer hit his second trifecta the next trip down the floor, giving Fort Lewis their largest lead of the game of six points. The Mountain Lions scored the last five points of the game to knot the contest at 62-62. Sophomore forward Devon Manning (Kirtland, N.M.) made two free throws with 1:26 left in regulation to give the Skyhawks a one point lead. Ryan Johnson (Aurora) sealed the game with a lay up with 24 seconds remaining.
Meyer led Fort Lewis with 14 points. Teammate Gerald Bryant (Gilbert, Ariz.) added 13 bench points. Major Willette led both teams with 19 points. Steve Raquet registered a game high 18 rebounds, as the Thunderwolves edged the Skyhawks in rebounding, 35-33.
Fort Lewis, seeded #2 in the RMAC Shootout, will face the #7 seed on Wednesday, March 1 at Whalen Gymnasium at 8 p.m. The #7 seed team will not be determined until all league games are complete this weekend. Dave Bray will call the game on KIUP 930 AM and www.radiodurango.com.
