LIANA LANSING, Carrying on a family musical tradition in DENVER.
Last year, LIANA LANSING produced the first "Liana's CHORALE-A-GALA," bringing together all 5 of the choirs she directs for a Gala evening of vocal music and refreshments!
It was so much fun, the "SECOND ANNUAL Liana's CHORALE-A-GALA" will take place on MONDAY, MAY 12, 7:30PM, at Windsor Gardens Auditorium, 650 S. Clinton St. (Off E. Alameda) Donation requested, $10. per person.
Human interest story/Denver history:
The LANSING family has contributed to vocal/musical life in Denver for over 50 years. When ROBERT (BOB) and GLADYS LANSING ventured to Denver in 1949, with Metropolitan and Chicago Opera performing credits, and daughter LIANA in tow, they didn't know their eventual musical impact on what was then considered a "cow town!"
Bob and Gladys formed the Capital Opera Co., and their performances in Denver are mentioned in Allen Young's recently published book, "Exotic and Traditional: Opera in Denver 1879-2006," (Pilgrims Process.)
Robert Lansing directed many church and community choruses; most notably a 25+-year association with the Mt. Bell/US West Chorus and the Rocky Mountain Singers, who performed in Denver, and across the world on numerous Goodwill tours-to Europe, the British Isles, Russia, Rumania, Scandinavia, China, (including Denver Sister City, Kunming) Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
LIANA LANSING graduated from EAST HIGH, and was awarded the Emma Eames Scholarship/Fellowship at the NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY of MUSIC, Boston. She apprenticed at CENTRAL CITY and SANTA FE OPERAS. Graduating with Bachelor and Master of Music (in Voice) Degrees, Liana moved to NYC, where she pursued her career at the New York City and other opera companies, performing concerts, recitals, as well as teaching privately. In 1984, Liana moved back to Denver, and has been carrying the "Baton" (license plate) of her Dad, directing numerous choirs, churches, and community groups in the Denver area. In 1994 she completed a Master of Music in Choral Conducting degree at the University of Colo. Liana led the NEW CHORDS on a tour to Prague, Vienna, Graz, & Bucharest, on invitation of the American Celebration of Music in Austria.
