The Rotary Club of Aurora recognized two "Students of the Quarter" at their meeting on May 16th. Each quarter two students from middle and high schools are selected from Aurora Public Schools, and Cherry Creek Schools located in Aurora. Aurora Rotary President Ken Hostetler said "this is one way we can recognize and encourage students that not only have achieved good grades but also work in school activities and help in the community". This quarters recipients are
Alisha Naranjo
from West Middle School and
Damaris Smith
from Aurora Central High School.
Alisha Naranjo has a 3.85 GPA and is ranked 6th in her class of 273. She has been on the community swim team the last two summers and is very involved in her church. She is a member of the worship team, youth group and is a youth leader. Alisha is respectful in her relationships with others and serves on the yearbook class requiring a lot of extra time.
Damaris Smith has a 3.8 GPA and is ranked 14th in his class of 478 and is a member of the National Honors Society. He volunteers every day in the counseling office offering tutoring support for students needing help. He has dedicated hundreds of hours to the Robotics Club in building and competing in Robotic competitions. Damaris struggled in Middle School however before 9th grade he decided to turn his life around and has been an honor student ever since.
The Rotary Club of Aurora is proud to select these two fine students and Student of the Quarter for March - May 2007.
