Lansing students "Read for the Record"
Contributed by: Mary Margaret Rangel on 10/5/2007

On September 20, people across the country focused on literacy as part of the "Read for the Record" program.

Schools and community volunteers read "The Story of Ferdinand" as part of the program. Colorado State Board of Education member Karen Middleton read the story to more than 20 second-grade students at Lansing Elementary.

After the story, students talked about the main character, asked questions about what might happen next, and thanked their special guest reader.

Middleton presented each student with a bookmark and a copy of the book. "Thanks! I just love books," said a Lansing second-grade student.

More than 250,000 children around the country participated in "Read for the Record." To learn more about the program, visit www.readfortherecord.org.
