Anschutz researcher to present stem cell program

Dr. Maranke Koster, assistant professor in the department of dermatology at the Charles C. Gates Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology Program at the University of Colorado at Denver at the Anschutz Medical Campus will present a program describing the latest cutting edge research into stem cells and how this could be used to cure many of our debilitating diseases.

Dr. Koster will speak at the Kiwanis Club of Aurora on Jan. 31 at Blossom's Restaurant, 2888 S. Heather Gardens Way. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by Koster's presentation at 7 p.m.

Dr. Koster has a strong background in the cell biology field and has a doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine. She has a postdoctoral fellowship. Her majjor interests are in epidermal development and differentiation and inherited skin disorders. Since 2004, she has published several papers and co-authored several others dealing with skin cells.

Her research as well as that of her colleagues is possible under a grant of $6 million from the Charles C. and June S. Gates Family Fund. This committment will allow the group to bring together several disciplines and focus efforts on the tremendous potential of stem cell research.

The Jan. 31 program is open to interested members of the community. Reservations for dinner and or Koster's presentaton can be made by calling Dick Jensen at 303-751-5832 on or before Jan. 28.
