Early morning homicide leaves one dead

On Oct. 14 at approximately 3:47 a.m., Aurora Public Safety Communications received a 911 call from a male who said someone had been shot in the area of East Jewell Avenue and South Flanders Street.

Aurora Police officers went to the area and discovered a deceased adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. An adult male suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Anthony Vigil, a Hispanic male, and the suspect has been identified as Samuel Raybin Wilhelm, a white male, both from Chama, N.M.

Major Crime/ Homicide detectives are also requesting information from any person(s) who may have seen the white Toyota Tundra pick-up truck occupied by the suspect and the victim between the hours of 3 and 4 a.m. Oct. 14.

Major Crime/Homicide detectives determined Oct. 14 that both the suspect and the victim were staying at a local hotel in Aurora. The suspect is currently being held at the Aurora City Jail on asecond-degree murder charge.
