On Friday 12/21/07, my husband found a badly injured cat in the alley behind our shop near 10th and Dayton Streets.
The cat appeared to have a badly infected ear, eye wounds, and most horrificaly, it appeared that someone had tried desperately to light this poor cat on fire.
Despite its extensive injuries, this cat allowed us to handle it. The cat was very sweet and gentle.
Our veterinarian, Dr.
Floyd Sunshine
of Mississippi Animal Hospital, and his staff kindly treated this stray cat. Despite their very best efforts, after 5 days in the hospital, the cat had to be euthanized. Its condition was too bad to be reversed.
On the brighter side, we are blessed to have an angel among us in the form of Dr Sunshine. He and his staff are very compassionate and caring, and took this homeless cat without hesitation. I am deeply grateful that there are people like him in this world. They truly care about the animals and their humans.
The tragedy in this story is that some sadistic monster is still out there. Research has shown time and again, there is a definite correlation between cruelty to animals, and an escalation of violence towards humans.
Therefore, this should be taken very seriously. The fact that a person committed this heinous act, shows an indifference to suffering and lack of conscience, which makes for a dangerous person.
We were to adopt this cat if it had made it. I felt that I could make up for all the pain this cat endured, by giving it a great home and lots of love. Sadly it never happened.
If you know of anyone who is cruel to animals, I would implore you to tell authorities. It only will get worse.

This is why the death penalty needs to be expanded. Whoever did this needs to be sentenced to death. Also, those who change lanes and turn without signaling should also be put to death.

Terrible sad that in this world today, we have these sadistic people that can torture animals. Hope they all suffer and pay for what they do to animals. This is so terribly cruel. Animals do not ask for much, yet give so much in return. REport all cruelty to authorities.

Years ago... I actually found a cat tied to the underneath of a car with a shoe string. The older lady had just driven to the lawyers office and was about to leave again when he was discovered. Long story short, we never found out who did the dastardly deed. But I was able to get him healed up (lots of burn marks from the exhaust and his claws were torn out) and he was a wonderful companion of mine for 12 years. I still miss him.

Shooting them would be much too nice. Light them on fire like they did the cat!
