45-year-old found dead in apartment

On Sunday, Feb. 3, shortly before noon, Aurora Police officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of North Oakland Street on a report of an unknown problem. Officers entered the apartment and once inside, found a deceased woman.

Officers secured the one-bedroom apartment before detectives from the Major Crime / Homicide Unit were contacted and responded to the scene.

MCU/H detectives requested and received a search warrant later that same day and began to collect evidence.

At this time, detectives continue to collect evidence from the apartment, conduct witness interviews and follow up on potential leads in the case.

An autopsy was performedFeb. 4by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.

The deceased victim has been identified as 45-year-old Kimberly Kay Smith,of Aurora.

No arrests have been made in connection with this case.
