Gloria Neal is in a sweat, but it's not because
Sassy 107.1 fired her last month.
I talked with Neal on the phone Tuesday when she was driving home from the gym. Because my car doesn't pick up Sassy's signal, I hadn't heard Neal's voice since here Jammin' 92.5 days.
"I'm not interested in bad-mouthing anyone," Neal says of her Sassy exit, noting there had been rumors about salary cuts at the Denver Radio Company, Sassy's parent, but not of staff terminations.
"I'm movin' on with what is. (DRC has) got to deal with the challenges they got," said the woman who counts media personalities
Cha Cha,
Bazi Kanani and
Bertha Lynn among her friends.
Bloomberg News reported in January that DRC owed its creditors $25 million.
The only black woman to have hosted a Denver radio morning show, Neal has been using her extra time to work on various projects. Just as she likes to mix up her efforts at the gym -- taking yogaand spinning classes, working on an elliptical machineand lifting weights are among her favorites --Neal has several professional irons in the fire. She is working on an article for
Denver Woman magazine, emceeing comedy shows and preparing for keynote speaking duties around town. She also appears on Fox 31 every Friday morning.
"My net is wide. I'm not just looking at radio," the Aurora resident says about her future. "There are too many other things I can do."
"My default is positive. I don't have time to dwell on the bull$hit," she said.
You can next find Neal emceeing at the
Denver Improv on March 7.
Denver Radio Company program director
Tim Maranville hasn't returned my Tuesday afternoon phone message. If he does, I'll post something about our conversation.
