You're going to be fine. Take a deep breath and realize that being a college student only happens for a four (or five, or maybe even six) year period in your life. Take the time to enjoy it. Do you need to know what's going on around you in Boulder? Want to connect to other CU students around? This blog is going to help you get the most out of CU and Boulder as you can, with interviews, the latest news about CU and Boulder that effects you and links to resources for CU students.

Most college students these days have a profile on MySpace or Facebook, or both. You can join 'groups' on these Web sites. There is generally no need to belong to a certain clique to join one of these groups. All you have to do is have a common interest, or non-interest.

My personal preference these days is for the groups that start out with "For every (blank) people that join..." Sometimes, the focus of these groups is serious. For example, this group committed to donating money for Darfur. There are, of course, those groups with a less serious aim. For instance, try looking at this group that doesn't seem to like kittens very much.

Groups on Facebook can be fun. Do you have a group that you enjoy being a part of? Why not post a story about it or start your own blog?

Events

What's going on around campus this weekend? Here's a few things you can do in between, you know, studying or partying.

-Program Council is putting on free horror movies this weekend, both Oct. 27 and 28 at 7p.m. in Muenzinger E050. They will be showing The Descent and Scanner Darkly. Tickets are free and are available at the Program Council office in UMC 401.

-Hillel and others will be bringing the diplomatic correspondent from the Jerusalem Post onto campus Oct. 27. He will be discussing the image of Israel in the media.The free event will be held at 7 p.m. in Duane G1B20.

-The CU Museum is hosting a Day of the Dead Family Day on Oct. 29. There will be craft making and storytelling, among other things. It's free and goes from 1-4 p.m. in the CU Museum.

And off-campus, there are other fun things to do.

-The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art will be hosting The Ball, a benefit for its art programs at 9 p.m. Oct. 27 at the museum,, 1750 13th St. in Boulder. Tickets are $40 ahead of time and $50 at the door and are available at www.bmoca.org.

-Finally, Historic Boulder will put on the Ghost Walk Ghost Tour Oct. 27 and 28 from 6-9 p.m. This walk will go through parts of downtown Boulder and will feature psychics who will attempt to talk to the ghosts wandering around. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids. For more information, call 303-444-5192.

News

The Campus Press has a story about the recently-opened Twenty Ninth Street mall. I'm just happy that there will be another Apple store around so I can be reminded why I won't spend $200 on a music player with planned obsolescence.

The Colorado Daily has a story about your UCSU elections. Apparently, turnout for the first two days already beat the total turnout for the last UCSU election. Lift high the torch of democracy, folks!

And CNN picked up a story about how a CU researcher figured out that it isn't only your dog that suffers from worms, but dinosaurs, too.
