Candidate profile: Darrin Dutcher
Contributed by: Darrin Dutcher on 9/14/2006

Darrin Dutcher is running for State House, District 30

My name: Darrin Dutcher

Age: 41

My family: Married to my wife Erin for 10 years. We have two daughters, Sloan (9) and Danielle (5).

What I do: I am a drug discovery scientist with my BA from the University of Colorado and an MA from Brown University. I have been working for cures in the areas of cancer and diabetes for nearly 15 years.

My favorite place in town to hang out: We love to entertain at our house, otherwise Brighton has a lot of great mexican restuarants that we frequent.

What I like most about living here: We love the small town feeling and the people that go with it. The proximity to Denver and Boulder is wonderful combined with the potential that our part of the state has makes it the best place in Colorado to live.

My interests and hobbies: Outdoor interests are mountin bilking and flying rockets and RC planes with my girls. In-doors I enjoy writing and reading history and biographies.

What is my favorite thing to cook: I love to grill just about anything and at any season. Our favorits include steak, veggies and salmon.

People who inspired me (and how): John Adams (second president) and Abraham Lincoln. Each overcame tremendous odds and never strayed from their beliefs and goals. Adams because of his firery spirit, passion and sacrifice and Lincoln because of his intelligence, patients and drive.

How I have contributed to the community: I have served within the Brighton 27J school district on the budget committee, accountability committee and curriculum council because I am a strong believer in education and that we as a community and a state can do better for our children.

What are the biggest issues facing community now: We have had to endure a enormous amount of growth in recent years and this is not going to stop in the foreseeable future. It has impacted our school system, our local economies and our property owners and their rights. There are more things that can be done from the state level. If used and managed to our advantage, growth can bring great jobs, improve our quality of education and our quality of life.
