The year is 1949 and I, along with some 20,000 other WWII veterans are attending the University of Denver. The G.I. Bill covered the cost of our tuition, books, and a monthly check, for $90.00 if I remember correctly.
To supplement my income I got a job at the sorority house of the Alpha Chi Omega as the "houseboy". My duties included serving dinner to some 25 young ladies and cleaning up afterwards.
On one eventful day as I was up to my elbows in dishwater, in walks the house mother (who hired me) accompanied by the prettiest girl at school. I pursued her for the next two years and married her in 1961. 55 years later she is still "my girl", and I'm still washing dishes.
