Pearl Street Mall gets a strip club
Contributed by: Brit Horvat/YourHub.com   on 12/14/2007

Shhh ... apparently this all-nude strip club is supposed to be a "hush hush" thing. Well, not now. Let's start some conversation here, people. When I stumbled upon the Daily Camera story on the Nitro Club that's only been open for about a week, I couldn't help but wonder what your thoughts are.

Of course, I've always had mixed feelings about strip clubs - and if it were my choice and I had a few extra bucks in my pocket, I'd open a burlesque bar or a sex shop filled with all things by women and for women (yes, porn is included in such categories) on the Pearl Street Mall.

But, on the overall strip club topic, I can't help but respect everyone who chooses to be involved.

Even though the owner refuses to have his name mentioned in the story, I don't think it's that big of a deal. It's actually quite simple: go or don't go.

If you want to go to a strip club now, you no longer have to drive to the depths of Broadway (OK, the Bustop's not that far, but in the Boulder scheme of things, it's quite the gander). And if you have a problem with it - you can choose not to walk down the alley behind Old Chicago and you can get on with your evening.

In regards to its location and how they've so quietly promoted it, they're clearly not shoving this new business in people's faces. In my eyes, they're simply increasing the variety on the mall (yes, just when you think there's no way the mall could get any more diverse) - and opening the doors of possibility in Boulder's business world.

I can't speak fully on the topic, because I haven't been there yet - but you can count on hearing from me when I go.

But for now, talk to me. Provide your comments below. And if you're not registered to post a comment, e-mail me at horvatb@yourhub.com and I'll help you out. Or if you'd like to submit an anonymous take on the situation, please, by all means - e-mail your thoughts my way.

I called my son in Boulder and told him I heard Caplis & Silverman going after the Nitro Club, so he better go soon, just in case. He was offended, saying he had higher standards than that. Funny how life works out.

I agree - I don't think it's that big of a deal - it sounds like a more classy place than the Busstop, at any rate. As long as they treat their employees well, I have no problem with it.

Brit, I can imagine you opening a burlesque bar. I even have a great name for it, too. Ask me about it later.
