The Police have been added ...

... to my all-time favorite live shows list. Wow. At first, I was a little skeptical, based on what I had heard from other folks. One of my friends in Boston had read an article about their recent show in Seattle that apparently said that Sting was "prancing around like a pansy" onstage because he had jumped at the wrong time during a song? Hmm. Sounds pretty picky to me. Any man that looks that good at that age can prance around all he freakin' wants.

Over hamburgers at Braun's before the show at the Pepsi Center on June 10 (ahem, the second scheduled night due to popular demand), someone else mentioned that they had read about the show the night before. Apparently it started out shaky. Shaky to the point that it sounded as if they had just gotten together.
I didn't care. I had a free ticket to see a world famous band, thanks to my friend Kathryn Mizke -- and extra special thanks to her boyfriend who was gone on assignment. "Damn."

Before the show, there was old footage and super old home-made music videos of the trio playing on every screen in the lobby. I haven't started searching yet, but I'm gonna get my hands on these videos. They reinforce the idea that sometimes music videos need nothing more than the artists, their instruments and the camera. Any band that can keep me glued to the TV (especially when there's no sound) with that criteria is a keeper. A must-love.

Perhaps the funniest part of the night was when I sat down in my seat and it BROKE. Everyone thought they were so funny with their fat jokes. " Brit, lay off those milkshakes!" "Wow, put on a few pounds, eh?"

It was funny, I must admit. However, the big red mark on my back from the metal that's supposed to hook the seat cushion to the chair -- well, not so funny. Why? Because it's not bad at all, and I wanted an excuse to sue someone.

Despite the negative tidbits I heard here and there, the show was absolutely incredible. Not only was it a reunion of a trio that has made its lasting mark on the world, but the simplicity of it was not something you see at the Pepsi Center. Let's just say that they didn't go all out on production. It was just the boys, their instruments, the stage and the audience. The authenticity of it all was more impressive than any high-tech, high-budget show I've ever seen.

Right when the show started, my friend Kat leaned over and said, "Sting and his wife are all into crazy tantric sex and they are totally open about it and tell everyone. They had sex for an entire day and night once."

While I won't go into detail about the details she instilled in my head from that moment on, I will say that whatever Sting is doing with his wife is keepin' him lookin' young. As for the other two gents in the band ... well, think what you will.

My friend's dad, Bob, told me prior to the show that I was about to see one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. Welp, he was right. Stewart Copeland is a genius. Andy Summers was on it, too. His guitar solos had be movin' and a shakin.' And Sting, well, he makes it look so easy.

***Random fact: Did you know that Sting's real name is Gordon Sumner? And that he used to be an english teacher? So THAT's how their lyrics are so great ...

What an honor to see such a classic band perform such an amazing show (with a triple encore, by the way).

I leave you (folks of my generation) with a question. What current popular band will still manage to fill an arena 20-30 years from now like The Police did?

I sadly have no answers. Do you?
