Monarch High School seems to have caught a humanitarian fever. This year more than any other, Monarch students are getting involved with both local and global initiatives to better our world. From signing the ONE Declaration, to attending Displace Me, we're spending a ton of our free time, and money, on campaigns that matter.
Whether you spend 24 hours on Monarch's track field in the summer to raise money for cancer research with the Relay for Life, or buy a Product(RED) tee shirt to fight global AIDS, you're making a difference. Students have donated their own blood this year through Bonfils, and wrote letters to congress to stop the genocide in Darfur. For those of you who haven't found a particular cause that pulls a heart string, check out some of these organization's websites, each one of them is always looking for more volunteers.
For the seniors attending CU next year, there are a ton of groups working to fight hunger and homelessness in Boulder including Community Table, a food kitchen that operates out of several churches, and Boulder County Cares, which works during the winter to make sure homeless people do not freeze. And of course there are dozens of other groups in every city across the country.
The important thing is to not lose the drive that makes you want to make a difference. Whether that was the sadness you felt while watching the
Invisible Children
documentary, or the inspiration you felt watching
Idol Gives Back
, don't let that emotion go and become numb to world around you. One person can make a difference; all it takes is the will.
