Blog Entry 19 of 60 Carless in Boulder
What it's like to voluntarily go carless as a way of life in Boulder, Colorado.

New walking shoes, no trip required
Contributed by: Amy Gahran   on 2/21/2007

A crucial aspect of going carless, I've found, is finding ways to eliminate or consolidate errands. Online shopping is a big help on that front.

Last week I asked my friend Cathy if she wanted to go shopping with me -- my beloved black Merrill moccasins had finally degraded to the point that they deserved a decent burial. Merrills aren't cheap -- I think the last time I bought them a couple of years ago, they cost around $75.
Cathy -- ever the dealmeister -- said, "Oh, don't buy Merrills! Land's End makes a shoe just like it for only $29. You can order it online."
...So that's just what I did! Today, my new All Weather Mocsarrived. They're pine green, and they fit just fine. With shipping, they only cost me about $35.
Later today, I'll wear them for a walk to see how comfy they really are. I'm hoping to convince Cathy to pull her nose away from the grindstone to join me for a drink at the Southern Sun. (If you get there right at 4pm, it's not too crowded -- and today might be nice to sit on the patio, which has a great Flatiron view.
