Growing the Movement
The 747 taxied out onto the runway. Soon Colorado was just a bunch of square patches of Earth sinking below me. For my 18 th birthday I didn't go out and buy cigars or lotto tickets or anything traditionally rebellious like that to celebrate. Instead I traveled roughly 1400 miles across the country to our nation's capital to plan an anti-poverty conference taking place in June of 2007, now there's something to celebrate.
Bread for the World is a non-profit lobbying organization planning an event called Sowing Seeds. It's happening in Washington D.C. June 9-12, and you're invited. I had the privilege to sit on the youth planning board and attend a meeting this past November at Bread's central office. We talked about everything we wanted to see at the conference and let me tell you what, it's going to be awesome! Workshops and lectures designed to prepare attendees for talking to their representatives and senators about doing more for the poor and hungry in our world, and then putting those skills to use the day after the conference, National Lobby Day.
"And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8
Making change happen requires everyday citizens to step up and speak with their voice. When June rolls around I want to step on that 747 again and have a huge group of Coloradansstep on with me to let our leaders know we care about the tired, hungry and the sick. This conference will be life-changing, please consider making time to become God's tool, to speak the good word to those who need to hear it.
God bless,
Matthew McAllister-
