Description:
The 26th almost-annual Big Wheel Rally challenges the endurance of adults and the strength of plastic for a big night of Big Wheel riding along the Pearl Street Mall. Proceeds from the Big Wheel Rally benefit the Saint Joseph Hospital FoundationNeonatal Intensive Care Fund (NICU).
Matt Armbruster, the organizer and founder of the Boulder-based Big Wheel Rally, learned about Saint Joseph Hospital's NICU through his friends experience with their first child. "Just before Christmas, my best friend and his pregnant wife checked into Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. Their daughter was born three months premature at only two pounds. She spent the next three months under the expert care of Saint Joseph Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit staff with mom and dad visiting twice a day, every day. She finally came home and is a beautiful, pudgy baby, healthy in every regard. After that, it only took an instant for me to realize what the Big Wheel Rally should be for," said Armbruster."What could be more fun than adults on Big Wheels supporting a great cause!"
The registration fee is only $5 and participants will receive a limited edition "Ride Low" wrist band. The Big Wheel Riders will begin at the Walrus in Boulder and ride, rumble, and power slide their plastic chariots to participating establishments along the Pearl Street Mall.
Saint Joseph Hospital delivers more babies than any other Colorado hospital, with more than 5,000 births in 2005. The Hospital's NICU is a Level 3 nursery where premature babies and critically ill newborns receive the highest level of care from specially trained physicians and registered nurses.
