Come fly with me - community giving winner

Boulder, CO - Community Shares of Colorado, a nonprofit providing funding and raising awareness for over 100 local charities, surprised contest winner Martha Perez with two free airline tickets at Wednesday's Boulder County Government Planning Commission meeting. Ms. Perez entered the Frontier Airlines Fly-Away Give-Away drawing and won the tickets last fall as part of Community Shares' annual Community Giving Campaign.

Each year, Boulder County Government employees are given the option to make a paycheck contribution gift to the charity of their choice. Boulder County Government has included Community Shares and its member charities in its employee giving campaign for over 15 years. "Community Shares appreciates Boulder County Government's organization-wide commitment to the community," said Deputy Director Alyssa Kopf. "Last year, Boulder County Government employees donated nearly $30,000 to Community Shares member agencies through paycheck contribution gifts. We are thrilled a Boulder County Government employee was drawn as a contest winner."

Frontier Airlines donated 4 free roundtrip plane tickets to Community Shares to offer in a drawing to any employee in Colorado who took time to learn about Community Shares and paycheck contribution giving. Ms. Perez was one of hundreds of Coloradans who entered the drawing during the 2006 Community Giving Campaign.

Community Shares offers employee giving campaigns in over 160 worksites in the private, public and nonprofit sectors across the state. Community Shares raised over $1.4 million dollars for over 170 charities in the 2006 Community Giving Campaign. Boulder County nonprofit organizations receiving funding include: HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, Eco-Cycle, the Longmont and Boulder Valley Humane Societies, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, Boulder County Arts Alliance, and KGNU Independent Community Radio.

Boulder County Commissioner Tom Mayer said, "As a County Commissioner, I am extremely proud of our employees' generosity. This isn't a one-time success; every year, Boulder County employees collectively donate tens of thousands of dollars to local nonprofits, and in doing so, they exemplify one of our County's guiding values: that we are a caring county government that values and respects diversity and builds on the strengths of individual employees, the organization and the community."
