Nonprofits may now apply for Worthy Cause funding

Boulder County nonprofit human service agencies may now apply for capital funds through Boulder County's 2008 Worthy Cause II Pool. All requests for funding must be received by the Boulder County Commissioners' office by e-mail only, NO LATER THAN 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 20.

The Boulder County Worthy Cause Request for Funding application for 2008 "Pool" funding is available on the Boulder County Commissioners' web page, www.co.boulder.co.us/bocc.

Next year (2008) will be the final year of the "Worthy Cause" 0.05% sales tax, approved by the voters in November 2003. The five-year initiative allocates a portion of sales tax revenue to Boulder County nonprofit human service agencies for capital projects, including purchase of land or buildings, construction, renovation, or debt reduction. At the end of 2008, the tax will expire unless placed upon the ballot by the county commissioners and extended by county voters at an election in 2007 or 2008.

At this time, it is anticipated that approximately $450,000 in Worthy Cause Pool Funds will be available for allocation in the form of grants awarded through a Request for Funding process. To date, about 21 local nonprofit human service agencies have received more than $2 million in capital awards since voters re-approved the tax in 2003.
