Yes, for those of you living in Colorado you are probably thinking of that first fantastic run down your favorite ski slope. I remember living in Colorado during the winter and the first snow was always exciting...and usually on Halloween night.
For me the excitement of the season change was soon followed by dreams of warm weather! And by late December forget it, the glow was gone. Warm weather or bust was my mantra. Hence the move from Denver to
La Manzanilla, Mexico. La Manzanilla is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico, approximately 4 hour drive south of Puerto Vallarta or 45 minutes north of Manzanillo.
The last year has been tough economically for the US, but coupled with bad press and a flu scare it has been devastating for my new home town. La Manzanilla's economy is built on tourism. Each November the air fills with excitement as the galleries, restaurants and shops spruce up, open and welcome all the visitors for the season. Our tourist season coincides with the end of our rainy season, when you can expect 85 degrees, sunny with a slight ocean breeze everyday until the end of May.
This year, along with every other tourist destination in Mexico, you'll find lots of steals and deals to stretch your vacation dollar. Starting with flights, Manzanillo international airport is 45 minutes from La Manzanilla, round trip flights from Denver are as low as $575 booked on Orbitz.
You'll find many lovely
accommdations in La Manzanilla don't be afraid to ask for discounted pricing, although regular prices for a one-bedroom on the beach can be as low as $90 a night. La Manzanilla hosts a couple of basic but nice hotels that start at $25 a night.
Food- Wonderful fresh authentic food at beachside restaurants can be had for around $8 a plate, shrimp ceviche, grilled fish, tacos and more. Enjoy a beer or two with your meal? I've traveled the world and I usually judge a destination by the price of beer in a restaurant. For about a buck you can get a beer served to you as you sit on the beach and enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Enjoy the snow, I read the Denver Post so I know you've had some, but when you think a quick escape to somewhere warm where your dollar will go far, think of La Manzanilla, Mexico.
