Colorado PTA celebrates 100 years
Contributed by: Colorado PTA on 3/17/2007

On Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21, Colorado PTA will celebrate 100 years of dedication to the children of Colorado at its 86th annual Convention at The Westin Hotel in Westminster, CO. Several special guests will be there to help commemorate this historic event including National PTA President Anna Weselak, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter and Westminster Mayor Nancy McNally.

PTA members from elementary, middle, and high schools across the state will gather for a weekend that includes guest keynote speakers like nutritionist Dr. James Rouse, 9News - Optimum Wellness, artist and motivational speaker Erik Wahl, The Art of Vision, educator Judith Baenen, pre-adolescent expert, and Anna Weselak, president of National PTA. Children's songwriter and performer Eddie Coker will provide pre-dinner entertainment Friday evening.

"The Colorado PTA has been advocating for children, families and public schools for 100 years. Now, more than ever, we are giving meaning to our motto- everychild.onevoice. It is our hope the Convention will be both a reflection of our history-a century of dedication to children 1907-2007-and a recommitment of our collective energies to meet the challenges in the years ahead," said Teresa Williams, president of Colorado PTA with her trademark grin.

Convention goers may choose to attend a variety of workshops such as early childhood development, Internet safety, music in the classroom, CSAP and No Child Left Behind, and college planning as well as PTA officer training for presidents, secretaries, and treasurers.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the Exhibit Hall where they may speak with and collect information from various organizations as well as Colorado PTA's partners and sponsors.

Marta Murray, Vice President for Convention and her committee have been carefully planning this event for several months. "It's a lot of work and takes a committed group of people to put together a successful Convention. Since this is our 100th birthday, we've worked hard to make this a special event. We have a huge party planned for Friday night, as well as fabulous speakers and workshops throughout the two day event. It's going to be so much fun! Anyone with an interest in issues that affect children should attend," said Murray.

Colorado PTA members and non-members may attend. For more information and/or a registration form, please visit www.copta.org/convention.htm or call the Colorado PTA office at 303-420-7820 or toll-free 1-888-225-8234.

Colorado PTA is a huge proponent of parent involvement in schools. With a membership of 30,000 statewide, Colorado PTA is a powerful voice for all children and a strong advocate for public education. Membership in Colorado PTA is open to anyone-parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, members of the community-who is concerned with the education, health, and welfare of children and youth, and believes in the Mission and Purposes of PTA.
