Community invited to meet principal finalists at upcoming forum

The parent community is invited to the upcoming Principal Community Forum that takes place Tues., April 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Pioneer Elementary. Don't miss this event, it's your chance to meet the finalists, ask questions and provide feedback.

High schools to offer transition nights including eighth and ninth grade course selection

For all those incoming ninth graders looking for a little assistance with the giant step from middle to high school, consider attending the upcoming transition evening series that will be presented at each high school this February through April. One Book, One BVSD Celebration!

(for Boulder Valley School District Students)

Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam

What: BVSD One Book, One BVSD Celebration and Contest

Where: Platt Middle School Auditorium, 6096 Baseline Rd., Boulder, 80303

Who: One student representative from each middle and high school will compete. Friends, families, teachers, administrators and community members are strongly urged to attend!

Sponsored by: BVSD Department of Reading and Literacy and the Boulder Council of the International Reading Association (BCIRA)

Each BVSD middle and high school may enter one student in this qualifying contest and celebration of One Book, One BVSD. Students and schools are encouraged to bring along their friends and families to cheer them on at the April 7 th celebration.

6:30 p.m. Student representatives from each middle and high school meet at Platt

6:30-7 p.m. Music (TBA)

7-8:30 p.m. Students representing each BVSD middle and secondary school share a personal response to the book (3-5 minutes per person). Students are judged on both the content and craft of the response, as well as oral presentation skills.

8:30-8:45 p.m. Music/Closure/Announcement of five winners - Judges choose the five representatives who will go on to share their responses at a community dinner for Homer Hickam on April 17 th. The five students chosen will be either a middle or high school student representing one of the secondary schools in each of the communities of Louisville/Superior, Broomfield, Boulder, Nederland, and Lafayette.

Each school's Language Arts Curriculum Council Representative is responsible for entering their school's contestant (contact Joan Podolak at joan.podolak@bvsd.org). One Book, One Boulder is organized each year by the Boulder Public Library in partnership with community organizations. Carol Heepke is the chairperson.

I stifled a chuckle upon seeing the moniker BVSD briefs. How about BVSD Weekly Update, or BVSD Doings or anything but "briefs" ?
