Casey students score on zoo project
Contributed by: Boulder Valley School District on 6/1/2006

Casey Middle School is proud to announce a team of six students who won the "Denver Zoo Young Scientists Program Competition," May 16. The students completed a multi-disciplinary project that examined animal behavior. Casey students, in competition with 20 area schools, were recognized as having the "Most Outstanding" project by a panel of staff zoologists at the Denver Zoo.

Students approached the project in a two-part series. First, students observed the behaviors of animal species in captivity and compared those to wild animals, said Erin Greenwood, Casey Middle School Science Teacher.

Second, students created zoo enclosure models designed "to improve the animals' quality of life and create an environment where they could behave more like they would in the wild," said Greenwood.

"We are proud of our students' effort and learning on this project. They competed with over 1,000 students to win this award," said Alison Boggs, Casey Middle School Principal.

Congratulations to the following students: Izzy Brierley, Rachel Haleman, Brendan Hoffmann, Nolan Platt, Elijah Teerapenun, Katie Walsh, Erin Greenwood, Casey Middle School Teacher
