Contributed by: Cindy Domenico on 10/13/2008

Name: Cindy Domenico

Seat you are seeking: Boulder County Commissioner, District 3

Age: 52

Family: Ken Birgen, husband, Julia Birgen, daughter, age 13

Occupation: Boulder County Commissioner

Hometown: Lafayette

Your Web site: www.cindydomenico.com

Favorite local place to hang out: Boulder Bookstore

What do you like most about living here?: Boulder County has been home all my life. I grew up on my family's dairy farm between Lafayette and Louisville, attended Lafayette and Centaurus Highs, and the University of Colorado. I love the mountains and open space, farms and people of this county. I love the far reaching vision and the energy in the discussions and the actions of our people, our communities and our county.

Interests & hobbies: traveling, camping, reading, archery, silversmithing

Favorite Web site: ricksteves.com

People who inspired you (and how): my mother, who taught me always to be curious and to be persistent, Robert Kennedy, who inspired me to challenge complacency, and Willie Knierim, my 9 th grade government teacher, who took a group of kids on their first voter registration drive, and made politics and government come alive for us.

How you have contributed to the community: John F. Kennedy said, "Things don't happen. They are made to happen." That's why I believe in public service and have served in public office for eleven years, ten as Boulder County Assessor, and the past year as Commissioner. In my work, I have been committed to providing the best in public service, through transparent government, innovative customer service and thoughtful, deliberative decision-making. I have also contributed to the community in volunteer efforts, as part of my faith community, and as a parent.

What are the biggest issues facing your constituency now: The biggest issues we face are the rollercoaster economy and its fallout over the next several years, strengthening our human service safety net to support our most vulnerable residents to self sufficiency, working to resolve transportation and transit issues, and continuing to develop creative strategies to improve energy efficiency and grow renewable energy opportunities for homeowners, business and our economy.
