February 17th our Anatolian Shepherd,
Scout
,was hit by a car near our cabin in Allenspark. He had multiple compound fractures to his left back leg and lost his paw on the right back leg.
Flatirons Veterinary Specialists in Longmont saved him and we found out the long term medical bill would reach $15,000.00 which included amputating one of Scouts legs.
Monday, March 5th an episode of Animal Planet aired with one of their ER Vets doing a prostatic foot for a dog. The surgeons name is
Robert Taylor
. This is also my husbands name. We found out he was a surgeon at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver.
My husband and I own Nissi's, a live music venue/supper club in Lafayette. Tuesday, March 6th I get a phone call from Harold Fielden, lawyer and also the drummer for the 4-Nikators wanting to do a Reunion Show in June at Nissi's. During the conversation I told Harold about Scout. Harold told me he was very good friends with
Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald
one of the ER Vets on Animal Planet who is Robert Taylor's partner. Kevin called me that evening and said he'd set up an appointment for us to see DR. Taylor.
Monday, March 12th we bring Scout in the see DR Taylor who told us he'd be able to give Scout a prostatic foot and save his leg. The surgery is scheduled in May.
On Monday,April 2nd, we're putting on a benefit at Nissi'sfor Scout to help pay our vet bills and Kevin Fitzgerald who also happens to be a comedian is going to open for The Fables, "A Beatles Tribute Band." If you'd like to attend, please RSVP Teresa at
nissismusic@aol.com
What a wonderful set of circumstances that led to saving Scouts leg and giving him the opportunity to live a full life. We are so greatful to DR. Robert Taylor
and DR. Kevin Fitzgerald for helping us give Scout the quality of life he deserves.
