Colorado Light Opera Means Business in 2008
Contributed by: Laima Gaigalas on 6/27/2008

Colorado Light Opera is about to open its 2008 season featuring two favorite musicals: "A Little Night Music" and "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Each production will be performed in repertory from July 10 to August 3 in the Music Theatre of the Imig Music Building on the CU-Boulder campus.

Stephen Sondheim's romantic and achingly beautiful Broadway classic A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC deals with the universal subject of love, in all its wondrous, humorous and ironic permutations. Sophisticated, literate and stylish, Tony Award winning "A Little Night Music" is also disarmingly warm, funny, charming and very human. The lilting Ravel-inspired score includes one of Sondheim's most beloved and haunting songs, "Send in the Clowns."

From composer Frank Loesser comes one of the most delightfully irreverent musicals of all time, Pulitzer Prize winning HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. A satire of big business and all it holds sacred, the musical follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook called "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant "company man," the boss' whiny, nepotistic nephew, the office party, backstabbing co-workers, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love.

A free Brown Bag Preview featuring highlights from both performances will be
held Monday, July 7 at noon in Grusin Music Hall. The preview features the
cast, stage director and music director presenting a fun glimpse of
selections from the shows. The Brown Bag Preview is free and open to the
public and attendees are welcome to bring a lunch.

A gala dessert reception will be held for all opening night concertgoers
July 10th from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. in the Imig Music Building.

Tickets for Colorado Light Opera are now on sale. Single tickets are $30
(Gold Circle) and $25 (Orchestra 1) for all performances. Discounts are
available for seniors (65 and over) and youth (18 and under). For tickets or
additional information, call the CU Concerts Box Office at 303-492-8008 or
