Boulder's Favorite Musical Son Steve Conn Returns to Perform Special Concert

Nine-time Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Steve Conn returns to Colorado again this summer for a special performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1st at Nissi's in Lafayette. This must-see concert features his long-time musical cohorts Steve Ivey, Chris Engleman and Bones Jones.

Though currently based in Tennessee, Steve Conn's music reflects the depth and diversity of his bayou soul Louisiana roots. Born in Pineville, Louisiana, Conn's music reflects wide-ranging influences, from cool jazz to Dr. John to Bob Dylan. Part funky bluesman, part soulful popster, he draws on his love of Southern literature to craft "tunes that infuse intriguing stories and characters with a depth of melody and musicianship that makes clear why Conn is in such demand." (Dirty Linen)

In addition to rave reviews for his highly original songwriting and distinctive playing by press as varied as the L.A. Times, Rolling Stone and Yoga Journal, Conn has toured or recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Sonny Landreth, Kenny Loggins, Albert King, Shelby Lynne, Arlo Guthrie and a multitude of others. He was a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and he's had his music played on Oprah and CSI. He also served a two-year stretch as musical director for Boulder's own E-Town.

One of Conn's songs, "Beautiful," is the title cut of soulful music icon Bonnie Bramlett's newest CD. None other than the estimable Steve Morse of the Boston Globe said, in his review of the album, ". . . the standout is the title song." Bob Edwards, of NPR and XM Radio said, "It's a wonderful song," and ". . . may be the saddest song I've ever heard."

Conn is also featured prominently on Landreth's new CD From The Reach, alongside such musical greats as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Robben Ford.

When Music Row magazine called Steve Conn "one of the best singers ever to amble into Music City," and compared his songwriting to Allen Toussaint, Carole King, and Townes Van Zandt, Colorado fans said, "We heard him first." Long before Conn settled in Nashville to write songs and play with America's finest roots-music artists, he made his home in Boulder, playing to standing-room-only crowds along the Front Range. From his legendary weekly Sunday night solo spot at the Hotel Boulderado's Mezzanine lounge, to dates with his seminal New Orleans funk band Gris Gris, Conn delivered a unique and unmistakable sound that has only improved with age.

Don't miss this chance to see and hear a true original.

"The self-titled Steve Conn contains heart-on-sleeve candor, strident Louisiana beats and magnificent singing." - The Tennessean

"Conn will kidnap you to a midnight mass on the Mississippi Delta." - Rolling Stone
