Albert
and
Edith Permut
will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a small family gathering at Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville. They were married in the Rose Room of the Albany Hotel in Denver on Jan. 19, 1941.
High school sweethearts, Al and Edith were born and raised in Denver, and both attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. Al also holds an engineering degree from Denver University and a MBA from Florida State University and retired from NASA in 1970. After his retirement, the couple moved back to Boulder, where they lived for 30 years.
The couple traveled extensively together around the world. Edith, who owned and managed the Hilltop Motel, enjoyed watercolor painting, gardening, ballroom dancing and volunteer work. Al was an engineer, an MBA and inventor. He loved fishing, dancing with Edith and horseback riding. They enjoy nature, the mountains and spending time with family.
The Permut’s have three children:
Susan Permut
, a retired communications and design consultant, of Maryland, and
Ron
and
Alan Permut
, both of Boulder. Both sons became electrical engineers and Ron is currently employed at SpectraLogic in Boulder. Alan worked in high tech but has now retired to a real estate career, as well as being a fly fishing aficionado and environmental advocate.
Albert and Edith also have four grandchildren, all of whom are college graduates. The couple’s two daughters-in-law --
Jane Permut
(Al’s wife) and
Renate Permut
(Ron’s wife) -- both teach at Louisville schools.
Albert’s career as an electronic engineer was quite distinguished and included working for all four U.S. military services, as well as Atomic Energy Commission and NASA in Maryland. He worked with
Wernher Von Braun
on rockets in New Mexico, missile ranges in Florida to protect the U.S. during the Cuban Missile Crisis and is the inventor of rain and stream gauges used in Boulder,
