Senior Services offers free seminar on reverse mortgages
Boulder Senior Services will host a free seminar entitled "Is a reverse mortgage right for you or your parent?" at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, at the East Boulder Senior Center, 5660 Sioux Drive. Reverse mortgages allow seniors over the age of 62 to gain access to home equity.Seniors and their adult children can find out if a reverse mortgage is a good option for them. Christopher Hudak from the Boulder County Housing Authority provides consultations on housing programs including reverse equity options. Parks and Recreation Department hosts National Employee Health and Fitness Day events on May 21
The city of Boulder's Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a series of activities for city employees and the community on National Employee Health and Fitness Day, Wednesday, May 21. Activities will include:
- 7 a.m. to noon- Life Measures Lab will be taking health and wellness screenings at the East Boulder Community Center, 5660 Sioux Drive. Call 303-441-4400 for more information, fees and to schedule an appointment.
- 11 a.m. to noon - at the North Boulder Recreation Center, 3170 Broadway Ave., and
1 to 2 p.m.at the East Boulder Community Center, 5660 Sioux Drive. Andrew Rich, Parks and Recreation's weight room coordinator, will offer advice on setting up a weight lifting program. Admission to the recreation center is required (patrons are seen on a first-come, first-served basis).

Medicinal herbal garden to be planted in the Sister City Plaza Thursday
A medicinal herbal garden will be planted in the Sister City Plaza, located on the east lawn of the Municipal building at the corner of Canyon and Broadway at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. The herbal garden was designedby thecity of Boulder's Parks andRecreationDepartment, and the plants were selected by Boulder Master Herbalist Brigitte Mars. The Sister City Alliance adopted two flower beds in the Sister City Plaza, which is dedicated to honoring Boulder's sister city relationships. Ball courts at Knollwood and ParksideParks to be resurfaced beginning week of May 12
The city of Boulder's Parks and Recreation Department is scheduled to begin court resurfacing on Wednesday, May 14, at the Knollwood tennis courts, located at 4
th and Spruce streets, and the week of May 12 at the Parkside Park basketball courts, located at 2444 Kalmia Ave. The Knollwood courts will be closed to the public during the construction, which is scheduled to take a minimum of two weeks. Summer sports camps still spaces available
The Parks and Recreation Department still has room in some of its summer sports camps. Spaces are available in the park sports camp from June 9 to 13; old school sports from June 16 to 20; team sports from July 7 to 11; select sports from July 14 to 18; and encore sports from July 21 to 25. In each camp, children ages 7-12 will explore a variety of sporting activities, games, fun exercises, swimming and canoeing. Each camp is from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday at the East Boulder Community Center and Park, 5660 Sioux Drive. Parks and Recreation offers Boulder Smash youth tennis team
The Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Boulder Smash youth tennis team for children and teens ages 8-18 years. The team will represent the city of Boulder's Parks and Recreation Department in matches with other tennis center teams. The team will practice and compete from May 24 through Aug. 8, with practices on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and matches on Mondays and Fridays. Volunteers needed for Community Cleanup Day
Help clean up Boulder by volunteering for Community Cleanup Day from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. Volunteers will help beautify Boulder by planting flowers, removing trash/recyclables and pulling weeds from parks, greenways and trails. After the work is complete, all volunteers are invited to a post event ice cream social at Scott Carpenter Park. Each participant will receive a one-day pass to the Boulder Reservoir and will be entered in a prize drawing for items such as gift certificates from Western Disposal, Eco-Cycle and more.
