Manhattan School also hit with graffiti threat

Police continue investigation into graffiti

The Boulder Police Department continues to investigate the graffiti report taken at Fairview High School on Tuesday, Oct. 17 and now have received another report of a threat written in graffiti at Manhattan Middle School of Arts and Academics, 290 Manhattan Drive. The latest incident was discovered and reported just after 2 p.m. today and does make specific mention of Oct. 20, 2006 .

Additionally, a spent shell casing was found today inside Fairview High School by the school resource officer. There is no evidence that any of these incidents at the school are related to each other.

The Boulder Police Department will continue to have a more visible presence at both schools tomorrow. Investigators and school resource officers continue to follow up on leads they have received regarding the graffiti.

"We have no independent or corroborating information that either school is at any greater risk than at any other time," stated Police Chief Mark Beckner. "However, because of recent events in schools across the country, we are taking a cautious approach and increasing security at both Fairview High School and Manhattan Middle School . The graffiti incidents are likely hoaxes in an attempt by misguided students to cause disruption in the schools. Still, we are taking additional precautions to help ease any safety fears the graffiti may arouse."

Anyone with information about this crime or the suspect is asked to contact the Boulder Police Department at (303) 441-3333. Those with information regarding the identity of the suspect and who wish to remain anonymous should contact Boulder County Crime Stoppers at (303) 440-STOP (7867). Those submitting tips that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Boulder County Crime Stoppers.
