Boulder police have arrested the 21-year-old driver of a black Volvo sedan involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured a 15-year-old boy on Saturday, Feb. 23. The suspect,
Alexander Rek, turned himself in with his attorney on Monday, March 3, after a judge signed a warrant that included possible charges of felony vehicular assault.
The arrest stems from a collision that occurred in the 800 block of College Avenue on Saturday, Feb. 23. Witnesses told police the victim, 15-year-old
Eliseo Rodriguez, was walking eastbound alongside the north edge of the street with friends, when a vehicle swerved in the direction of the group. There are reports that the driver appeared to accelerate before hitting the teenager. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. The boy was taken to Boulder Community Hospital, where he was treated for a broken bone and bruises. He was later released.
Rek, who attends the University of Colorado at Boulder, was identified as the suspected driver as a result of an anonymous tip that led officers to his home and his car, in the 1300 block of 9
th Street, on Sunday, Feb. 24. After some discussion, Rek consented to a search of his garage. Officers found a black Volvo with front-end damage inside.
Rek was booked into the Boulder County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault, hit-and-run and two counts of felony menacing. Bail was set at $10,000.
