WARM YOURSELF BY THE COUCH FIRE
Officers and firefighters responded to a burning couch in the intersection of 9th and University Avenue on May 7. One man was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant after he repeatedly got in the way of firefighters by walking up to the couch and pretending to warm himself by the fire. The fire was extinguished.
DRIVER CRASHES INTO A HOUSE
Officers are investigating a single-car accident that resulted in some damage to a home in the 1800 block of Canyon Boulevard on May 6. The driver crossed the median, crashed into a tree and damaged the residence. The case remains under investigation.
ADDING INSULT TO INJURY
Officers arrested a 49-year-old bicyclist May 7 who hit a parked vehicle at 17th and Athens streets and fell, causing the handlebars of his bike to puncture his leg. He was issued a summons for DUI on a bike.
MAN DIES IN APARTMENT
Officers responded to an unattended death in the 700 block of Walnut Street on May 8. The property manager found a 69-year-old Boulder man dead inside his apartment. He had a history of health problems. The coroner's office was notified.
MAN HITS CAB, PUNCHES WITNESS IN FACE
Officers arrested a man for investigation of criminal mischief and third-degree assault after responding to a disturbance outside Round Midnight on May 9. The investigation revealed that the suspect was walking in the middle of 11th and Walnut streets when a vehicle honked at him. The suspect hit the car. A taxi cab driver, who saw the incident, honked his horn, prompting the suspect to break his windshield. The man continued walking to Round Midnight. When a witness told the doorman not to let him in because police had been called, the suspect punched the witness in the face.
GRADUATION PARTY GETS VIOLENT
Officers responded to a first-degree assault in the 900 block of University Street after a graduation party turned violent May 10. Several of the guests got into an altercation. One sustained a fractured skull. Another was cut over his eye. An unknown male allegedly hit the two victims with a skateboard or a liquor bottle. Detectives are developing suspect information. The case remains under investigation.
BOY DRAGGED 70 FEET BY WINNEBAGO
Police responded to 19th and Quince streets after a 20-foot Winnebago hit an 11-year-old boy who was riding his bike on May 11. The child was headed eastbound on Quince and did not stop at the stop sign. He went under the Winnebago and was dragged about 70 feet until the RV could stop. The child was pinned in a sitting position by the front axle, near the passenger tire. The Fire Department used airbags to pull him out from under the vehicle. The child was taken to Boulder Community Hospital - Balsam. Amazingly, his injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
BUSH STARTS ON FIRE, IGNITES APARTMENT COMPLEX
Firefighters and police responded to the 1821 22nd St. on May 12 on a report of a bush on fire. The flames spread up the side of the apartment complex onto the roof. The fire was extinguished quickly, but there were concerns because the dry wall mud contained asbestos. Fire crews are awaiting air quality testing before entering the building for further investigation. Residents were displaced for at least a day. There appears to be damage - smoke and/or fire - to at least seven of the building's 31 units. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
