Boulder police press releases

Police investigate bias-motivated crimes

Boulder police are investigating what appears to be a bias-motivated harassment and criminal mischief incident that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on May 24, in the parking lot outside the New West Inn, 970 28th St. in Boulder. A gay couple told police they were confronted in the parking lot by a man who began shouting anti-gay, derogatory names at them, slammed their car door shut, and then grabbed a cell phone from one of them and threw it to the ground. One of the victims was able to call police for help. Officers contacted two men near the scene and questioned them, but investigators have not identified a suspect in this crime. Police are continuing their investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detective Tom Dowd at 303-441-3330 or dispatch's non-emergency line at 303-441-3333. Those with information who wish to remain anonymous should contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted via the Crime Stoppers Web site at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers.
