Police arrest two suspects in gas station robbery

Boulder police have arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery that occurred at a gas station at 4600 Broadway at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. The suspects were taken into custody about a half hour after the crime when an officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description given of the getaway van.

According to witnesses, a white male with black hair entered the gas station and walked up to the counter, demanding money. He was covering some of his face with a green colored mask and was wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt with a red shirt underneath. The suspect had his fingers pointed in the shape of a gun and the clerk felt she would be harmed if she did not comply. He left the store with cash.

Officers were advised to be on the lookout for an older model white van. A short while later, an officer spotted a white 1992 Ford Aerostar van with temporary plates at a gas station at 3185 28th Street. The officer made contact with the van's driver, who matched the description of the robbery suspect, and a passenger.

The driver was identified as David Lawrence Hayzlip, 28, of Boulder. The passenger was identified as Keegan Patrick Haertling, 23, of Boulder. Both men were booked into the Boulder County Jail under suspicion of aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.
