Boulder police are investigating an attempted sexual assault and robbery that occurred this morning, Saturday, Aug. 15, in a secluded area behind the community garden at Unity Church, 2855 Folsom St. in Boulder.
The woman told police she met the suspect at about 8 a.m. while she walking on Folsom Street north of Canyon Boulevard. The suspect acted as if he knew the victim, although she does not recognize him from any previous encounters. The pair walked along Folsom Street, stopping once for the woman to use the bathroom at a gas station, and then wound up at the community garden behind the church. The man lured the woman to a more secluded area from there, pushed her to the ground and indicated that he wanted to engage in sexual activity. When she resisted, he hit her several times in the face. She continued to fight back. The suspect gave up and left with the woman's fanny pack. He was last seen walking on the multi-use path back toward Folsom Street.
The suspect has been described as a black male with a medium complexion, between the ages of 35 and 40. He was about 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and had short, wavy hair. He was wearing black jeans and was a heavy smoker.
The woman, 35, sustained minor injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.
