Boulder County is looking for volunteers willing to dedicate their time weekly in order to help achieve what could be life-long changes in the lives of local teens. The Boulder County Enhanced Supervision Team (B.E.S.T.) is seeking adults who can work well with teens, provide a positive role model, and commit to a few hours a week mentoring a teen.
The B.E.S.T. Mentoring Program matches adults and juveniles one-on-one in order to provide the youth positive role models and supporting relationships that can them develop positive assets and reduce the likelihood of recidivism. Mentors also provide individual attention that separates teens from the potential influences of higher-risk peers.
Volunteers are required to complete a16-hour training and commit to mentor a teen for one year. The training will be held in the evenings on Tuesday and Thursday, April 15 and 17, and during the day on Saturday, April 19. Mentors will meet with their teens once a week for several hours, according to a flexible schedule that meets their needs and the schedule of their mentees. Mentors can plan activities that meet their interests; current mentoring pairs have participated in activities including pottery painting, horseback riding, dance classes, movies and more.
The deadline to apply for the program is Friday, April 11.
