9/11 five years later
Contributed by: Lauren Lopez on 9/10/2006

September 11th. What comes to mind when you hear this date in history? Some of us may trace back five years and think of what we were doing on this day in 2001. Many of us were getting ready for school, for work, or maybe it was your day off and you were just expecting a calm relaxing day.

And then it hit. We all saw it. We all became aware of it somehow in some way on that day. A plane hit and an entire city went into chaos. Two planes hit and a city was brought down to its knees. Three planes hit and a nation had its heart broken. A plane crashed somewhere in the distance as a symbol of standing as one and being a hero. A tragedy struck on an ordinary day that should have been lived like any other. That morning lives were lost, lives were changed, lives were questioned. Our nation was hit hard by a terrorist force. They corrupted our world in the span of a few hours. Planes no longer flew in the skies, people were in frantic and worry. And almost every American all over the country had their radios or televisions broadcasting the event as it unfolded.

It looked like an accident at first. Maybe a plane got thrown off course or was experiencing technical difficulties. And then the thing we were all hoping for was proven wrong. The crash was intentional; the innocent lives lost in vain. The missing turned up dead. Families were torn apart and never repaired.

Five years later we still mourn and we still remember. We still feel a small pain in our hearts for the event that happened that September day. We all felt grief, confusion, anger, and many more extreme emotions. Five years later we are still hurting. Wars have started and continued sense then, more innocent people have died. But I ask you this. Is it all in vain?
