Flying on the B-17 G :"Flying Fortress"

The B-17 G "Flying Fortress", the Warhorse of WWII, and the plane of legend. On Monday, June 8, 2009, just two days after the 65th anniversary of the invasion at Normandy, I was able to take a flight on one of the 15 remaining, flight worthy B-17s.

On this day, ten of us and a crew of three climbed aboard the beautiful, vintage bomber "Aluminum Overcast" and took a trip back in time. As I sat in the fuselage strapped in and waiting for take-off, my mind wandered back to those kids in the 40's who did the same, but with much more vital missions to carry out.

As I wandered about the plane with the ghosts of history, I looked at the ground below and thanked God for the sacrifices made to preserve this opportunity for me, others and future generations. Enjoy my pictures and enjoy my adventure with me through those pictures. Most of all, enjoy the freedom warbirds like the B-17 and the crews who flew them preserved for all of us.
