I am writing this entry on behalf of my son
Jack. Jack is a wonderful eight-year-old boy who has Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism. One of the characteristics of Asperger's Syndrome is intense special interests and one of Jack's most intense is baseball and his favorite team the Colorado Rockies.
During baseball season almost every one of our mornings starts with Jack getting up before everyone else, going out to the driveway to pick up
The Denver Post, and then reading the Rockies box score and related articles. Often mom and dad are greeted in the morning with last night's score, who the starting pitchers were for both teams, and some of the highlights. It is always a great start to his day when his favorite Rockies player,
Todd Helton, has a big game.
After Jack survived and recovered miraculously from brain surgery in 2004, I learned an important life lesson from him that the most valuable things in life are not things, but memories. Some of my favorite memories are playing and talking about baseball with my son so the opportunity to share a suite at Coors Field with Jack and family and friends would be another one of these valued memories. We would be delighted to attend any of the games, but probably the ideal game would be the September 19 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers since this is Jack's second favorite team.
