Have you ever had a ride in a bus that was not air conditioned for an hour each way in 98-degree weather? Wow, it's not fun; it's barely breathable! That's what I experienced along with other seniors on our tour of the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keensburg 2 weeks ago! Even the bus driver said "never again"! As a tour escort, I feel our seniors deserve better than that. It actually can be life threatening in this type of situation. (We've had breakdowns on past trips).
We desperately need a new bus, with air conditioning. . Our present bus was used for 15 years by Frazier Manor, and the senior center has had it for many years since the purchase! But it's beyond repair now! We do between 2 to 4 senior trips a week to the mountains and city tours. It helps keep seniors active, motivated, making new friends, while keeping seniors out of their cars..
We have $80,000 in contributions and pledges presently, but we need $40,000 more, to purchase a bus. The city council hasn't seen fit to contribute to this project which benefits so many seniors, and a grant from CDOT failed, due to the economy and other transportation needs. We would appreciate any help with any amount of donations, small or large. It would help our seniors now, including baby boomers, and in the future. Please send your contributions and checks to the Boulder Senior Foundation for the bus, at 909 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder, CO 80304. Thank you so much!
Everyone should experience the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keensburg. Over 161 animals saved including tigers, lions, bears etc. on 240 acres. It's great what humane and loving work they've done for the animals! Open every day! Pat Craig the director grew up in Boulder!
