Kalvin Bay and
Dominique Coleman both had 21 and
Richard Robyadded 20 as the struggling
CU Buffs got the biggest win of their season against the No. 14 ranked
Oklahoma State Cowboys 89-77 at the Coors Event Center Feb. 3.
The Buffs shot 47 percent from the field, including a sizzling 43 percent from beyond the three-point arc. With the win, the Buffs get their first win over a ranked opponent since Feb. 4, 2003, when they beat
Texas Longhorns93-80 at the Coors Event Center. The Buffs record also improves to 6-13 (2-7, Big 12) with the victory.
The Buffs led by 15 points at halftime and kept the Cowboys down most of the second half until around 5 minutes left in the game. Then, following on the heels of the hot shooting by
Jameson Curry from beyond the arc, the Cowboys got as close as 7 before shots stopped to fall for the team from Stillwater.
Bay was five of seven from three-point land and four of five from the free throw line. The rest of the Buffs combined for five three pointers.
Roby struggled early on in the game, missing multiple shots, but ended up scoring nine late points in the first half to widen the gap from the Cowboys. Roby was also nine of 11 on free throws.
Coleman played perhaps the best game of his career, including an acrobatic, behind-the-back layup in the first half. Coleman shot 50 percent from the floor.
Oklahoma State has not won a game on the road this year, although they have won a few neutral court games, including wins against
Syracuse and
Pittsburgh.
The win is the first for the Buffs since Jan. 17, when they beat Iowa State in Boulder. The Buffs take the court again Feb. 10 as they travel to Manhattan, Kan. to take on the
Kansas State Wildcats, who got a win against a ranked team of their own today when they beat No. 23 Texas in Austin.
