The University of Colorado Hockey team continued the undefeated season Saturday night as they beat the Montana State Bobcats by a score of five to one.
The Buffs started strong, and soon capitalized when
David Ludwig scored five minutes into the game, to give Colorado the 1-0 lead. The Senior Forward is tied for first on the team in goals with seven, and is second on the team in points with 14.
Scott Tittle currently leads the team with 16 points.
CU added two more goals before the first intermission, to give Colorado a 3-0 lead over Montana State. The goals were from
Max Myers from
Josh Wirth at 10:03, and
Andy Neitenbach from
Brian Bender and
Sean Carpenter at 16:33.
The second period was a lot like the first, with the Buffs outscoring and outshooting the Bobcats. CU's Josh Wirth scored with 10:39 remaining in the period, while
Mark Viau scored with 96 seconds before the second intermission.
The Bobcats only managed two shots, and one happened to go past Buffalo Goaltender
Nicolas Goulet, who replaced the starter,
Kevin Litinsky at 12:32 into the period. The goal was a backdoor one-timer by
Augie Smith from
Erick Bertelsen, in which Goulet had no chance of stopping.
At the end of 40 minutes the score was 5-1 Buffaloes, and that's how the game would stay.
However, things got interesting with 7:27 left in the game, when CU's
Chad Tittle and MSU's
Justin Cloud got into a fight. Tittle was immediately thrown out of the game, while Cloud received a two minute Roughing Penalty. It is still unknown if Tittle will be able to play this weekend in San Jose, as the Buffs travel to Northern California to compete in the "Best of the West Showcase."
Montana State only managed 13 shots the whole game, while the Buffs bombarded MSU Goalie
Randy Fields all night, finishing with 47 shots.
Colorado will return home to face Utah Valley State College on November 3rd, before the big home-at-home series against rival Colorado State on November 9th and 10th.
