A winter break of a lifetime
Contributed by: Ron Knabenbauer on 2/18/2008

So what did you do over your winter break? Go to Arizona? Go Skiing? Or if you were Kevin Alpert, the junior forward for the CU Hockey team, you went to Europe to play for the ACHA Division II Select Team.

From December 27, 2007 to January 4, 2008, Kevin and the rest of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) Selects played five games in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

Each arena was sold out for these games, and it was estimated that around 3,000 to 5,000 fans were at each game.

The team won all five games against their European counterparts in this trip of a lifetime.

On December 29, the Selects beat EHC Frauenfeld in Frauenfeld, Switzerland by a score of 6-4.

On December 30, the Selects won a close game against SC Weinfelden in Weinfelden, Switzerland by a score of 2-1 in overtime.

On New Year's Day they traveled to Alberschwende, Austria and beat EHC Bergenzerwald 4-3.

On January 2,the team headed north to Weiden, Germany where they demolished EV Weiden 15-0.

And finally on January 3, they went to Prague, Czech Republic where they won 6-3 to HC Kobra.

Being able to playing hockey in Europe is truly an honor for any player, and for a college kid like Alpert, it was truly a memorable and life changing experience.

The Highlands Ranch native has 14 goals and 16 assists this season with the Colorado Buffaloes.
