2008 Rocky Mountain Color Guard State Championship

The flags twirled, replica guns were tossed and 36 area groups synchronized their elaborate movements to the music at the the 2008 Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association Championship on April 5 at the Coors Events Center in Boulder.

Broomfield's Legacy High School captured its second-straight title, winning in the Scholastic Open division.

Colorado Springs' Doherty High School won the Novice division with an 88.5. Douglas County took the Regional A title with a 94.5. Rampart High School took Scholastic A with a 92.8, while Denver-based Alchemy Independent won the Independent A championship with an 87.9.

The divisions have different requirements that the groups are judged on and must complete.

Yeah! Finally Winterguard is represented and acknowledged in the media! I have tried all year to get media involved, we need to educate the media. Thank you YourHub. Just coming back the WGI Nationals, I want to say to all of the RMCGA Units who performed in Dayton you all did a great job this year. Now it the time to focus on 2009. With the hours of hard work and writing of shows. The hard work at practice these kids put into this sport! Upwards of 15 hours a week is spent in practice, while having to keep up with their homework and grades. Then when the season starts, it's more like 16-20 hours per week. We look forward to seeing everyone next year plus more!

Yeah! Finally Winterguard is represented and acknowledged in the media! However, one of your comments in the article states that "Broomfield's Legacy High School captured its second-straight title, winning in the Scholastic Open division." In reality, Legacy now has 5 state championships under their belt, 4 of which are in the Open division. (I don't know about the other teams, as Legacy was "our" team). My daughter spent her 4 years of high school involved in this sport and is very proud to have achieved the recognition that is bestowed with a state championship. This article (albeit well intentioned) doesn't go into the hours and hours of hard work and practice these kids put into this sport! Upwards of 12 hours a week (extracurricular) is spent in practice, and that's BEFORE the season starts. Once the season starts, it's more like 12-16 hours per week. Concluding, I would like to thank YourHub for reporting on this event. But in the future, maybe try to get facts straight.
